Summer time

Some people are real fans of winter and others can't stand the cold and wet. I'd have to say I'm evenly torn between both. I love that in winter you stay inside curled up in bed, listening to the rain outside. I love scarves, gloves, warm socks. Hot coffee or chocolate. Being warm inside and watching movies and reading good books.

Summer also has lots to offer. There is a definate freshness about summer that is nice. Lots of sunlight, long days, that call you outside after being indoors at work all day. Walks on the beach in the evening. BBQ's and mosquitos. The smell of freshly cut grass. Ice creams that melt faster than you can eat them. Sunburnt noses! (and arms and legs and shoulders!)
And for us in New Zealand... Christmas!

So, so sad

My poor blog! It has been 2 months since I've stepped foot here! I don't even think it's that I haven't had anything blog worthy to write about, I just forgot about it!

The U2 concert came and went, I've been on 2 more road trips, had the typical ups and downs at work and been to my first little kids birthday party since I was a kid myself.

Christmas is right around the corner, less than 2 weeks away now. I'm so behind in my shopping this year. I have a lot of work to do between now and then.

This is only short, the phone is ringing... I best get back to work.

Neglected

My poor blogspot has been very neglected! Can't believe the last time I posted something on here was in July! It's now halfway thru October! The year is just flying past. Christmas is just 2 months away!!! Kinda looking forward to the break to be honest.
I think I'm going to try post a little more often on here.

Over the weekend

Last Saturday Bex, Elle and I road tripped down to Hamilton for Chris' 21st. We stopped at McD's in Huntly on the way down and had a couple of local 10 year old boys declare us their girlfriends!! Too funny! We went straight to the Hamilton Gardens and had a look around. The girls had been there before so they acted as my tour guides as we travelled through the gardens. We had a lot of fun travelling around the world while we were there. We can expect a party in India in the near future, right Bex!! ; )

We checked into our super cool motel for the night, got prettied up and then met Tim, Amy and Lauren for dinner at Iguanas in 'town'.
Elli played navigater and got us to Chapel Hill where Chris was holding his party. This was not before a stop at a dodgey looking Dairy for a birthday card. Mmmm, what a handsome dog! Haha

Chris' party was good, just lots of hanging out and chatting. I ran into a guy I went to High School with so we had a good catch up. It was fun looking at the photos of Chris growing up and hearing the things that his friends shared during the speeches. Chris gave the longest 21st speech I've ever heard. It didn't seem quite this long but he reckoned it was about 35-40 minutes. It included his testimony, it really great to hear how God has worked in his life.

Kevin stayed at the hotel with us and we talked til about 2am.

We enjoyed our 2 free breakfasts which we split between the 4 of us and went off to church. It was certainly different when the guy worship leading you are used to seeing jumping around the stage as the lead singer of Late 80's Mercedes!

We had lunch, shopped and then left town around 3 on Sunday afternoon.

We made in back in plenty of time for InCite.

Overall a pretty good weekend. It will easily beat this weekend away in Rotorua for a work conference. Grumble grumble.

Reading

I really enjoy reading and I've read a few books lately. Just finshed reading 'In Her Shoes' yesterday which the recent movie of the same name was based. I saw the movie first and really enjoyed that. I saw the book for sale at the big red shed and got it with the intention of reading it over the summer! It ended up lower on my list of reading priorities and I picked it up a couple of weeks ago. It was an easy read, which is nice sometimes!

The other book I'm reading at the moment is an autobiography by Ngaire ?Something, just forgotten her name! She was born an Exclusive Brethern and she tells her story of growing up in that environment and then as she gets older rebelling and eventually leaving the sect. I'm about halfway through. It's an interesting read so far. You only really hear bits and pieces about the Exclusives so it's interesting reading the facts from someone who has been in it. She has taken a 'responsible' approach to writing the book too, she tells the facts of living live in the Exclusive Brethern church and no matter how strange she felt the church was she doesn't really bash it. I think she finds it quite sad that the people in the church really believe that the way they are is right.

I'm looking forward to finshing the book and finding out how she got out of the church.

I finshed the Frontier Dr books that I posted about last week. Glad to have them behind me.

The next few books on my shopping list are Francine Rivers new one 'The Prophet' a historical ficton book about Amos and Karen Kingsburys next installment of her Firstborn series.

Quiet

I'm a little surprised at myself! I have hardly posted anything on here this whole month. I'll have to make up for it next week. I'll have to do a weekend review on Monday - if anything worth writing about happens that is.

I've been reading heaps lately. Mostly fiction. The book I'm on at the moment is the third in a series of three.

Ok so the image is a little small, but it's pretty obvious that it's a nice happy christian novel. 'The Heart Remembers' is the title. I'm reading it as fast as I can, not because it's a fantastic book and I'm really enjoying it. But actually the complete opposite. I picked up the first book on the cheap, and it's pretty clear why it was on sale. They're really not well written at all. Infact, although its a 'dramatic' thing to say about a book, they've been painful to read. Some may ask, why buy book 2 and 3 then? Easy answer - I want to know what happens to Dr Dane and his nurse assistant wife Tharyn! I've got about a 1/4 left to go and then I'm done. Thankfully I have something decent to read next!

14 Things to help you be the HAPPIEST person you know! :)

Sound cheesy? Perhaps it is but I found these serman notes from a service at church in October 2004. It was a guest speaker that Sunday a guy named Rowland Croucher. From my memory he was an Aussie!!

The title of his serman was 'The best put together people in the World; How do they get to be like that?

He gave 14 ways to be a happier person... I thought I'd put them up here.

1. Have unity of spirit and harmony
2. Have sympathy for one another - but be empathetic
3. Love one another - loves creates worth
4. Have compassion and be tender hearted
5. Humility - have a humble mind
6. Bless people who do evil to you - love your enemies
7. Watch your tounge
8. Goodness - love to do good
9. Live at peace with one another - be a peacemaker
10.Rejoice in your suffering. When you suffer you are blessed
11. Do not be afraid
12. Sanctify the Lord in your life. Make him Number 1. Honour Christ in your life.
13. Have respect for others. Every human is created in the image of GOD.
14. Keep your conscience clear. Don't do anything that would make you ashamed of God, or him of you.

The Court Experience

I turned up to the Jury Assembly area on Monday morning. Checked in and took my seat. It was quite obvious who were the seasoned jurers and who were the newbies. There were a hundered or so of us waiting in a room with plastic chairs and old tattered magazines. We were shown a video about court proceedures that was made in I'm guessing the early 90's. Eventually a court official came in and threw all our names on small pieces of card into a small wooden barrell locked it, turned it three times, turned it the other way three times and then unlocked it.

The names of the accused for the first case were read along with the charges. We were to answer yes as our names were called - just like school. My name was probably close to the 15th called. Around 30 of us would be assigned to Court Room 10. The lady who I was chatting to in front of me was also in the first group with me. The man beside me was in the third group for the morning - assigned to a rape case.

We then had to wait. The Court was not ready for us yet. The ladies next to me chatted the whole time about family, house prices and of all things knitting. I'm thankful I picked up a book to read before I left home.

At about 11.30 we were asked to follow a lady through to Court Room 10. We were squeezed in to quite a small room. The Judge was already sitting up the front so there was none of this "all rise" business.

It was at this point that the accused were brought in.

I can honestly say that neither of them looked like men I would like to come across in a dark alley at night or on a busy street in the middle of the day.
The charges were read and they both pleaded not guilty. (surprise surprise) The lawyers were introduced and then the spotlight was on us, so to speak.

As our names were called we had to proceed towards the jury box and fill the seats from the back row to the front. If one of the lawyers called challenge before we were seated we had to turn around and go to the back of the room - you were not what they wanted and were not entitled to ask why. The 12 seats were filled before my name was called. A silent sigh of relief escaped my lips.

I'm not sure I was really ready for the reality of it all. For some reason I wasn't expecting the crimes to be so serious, but at the same time I'm not even sure what I was expecting. Law breakers yes, but not rapists and kidnappers. As a jurer I would have been responsible for deciding the guilt or innocence of these two men.
I'll be back there on Thursday to see if I am selected for a short two day trial. To be honest I won't be too worried if I don't get selected. I've seen what happens and that just might be enough for me!

Drugs!

So when I was in America and hurt my knee I was given these really strong painkillers. The name wasn't familiar to my doctor here and I didn't really think anything more of it...Until the other day. I think it was when I was watching Greys Anatomy I heard the name of the drug and was like ah that's what I had! I just searched it on Google and came up with quite a good description of it!

Hydrocodone or dihydrocodeinone (marketed as Vicodin, Anexsia, Dicodid, Hycodan, Hycomine, Lorcet, Lortab, Norco, Tussionex, Vicoprofen) is an opioid derived from either of the naturally occurring opiates - codeine or thebaine. Hydrocodone is an orally active narcotic analgesic and antitussive that is marketed in multi-ingredient Schedule III products. The typical therapeutic dose of 5 mg to 10 mg is pharmacologically equivalent to 30 to 60 mg of oral codeine. Sales and production of this drug have increased significantly in recent years, as have diversion and illicit use. Hydrocodone is commonly available in tablet, capsule, and syrup form. (Source: Opiate equivalancy taken from Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia)

As a narcotic, hydrocodone relieves pain by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord. It may be taken with or without food, but should never be combined with alcohol. It may interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, as well as other drugs that cause drowsiness. It is in FDA pregnancy category C: its effect on an unborn embryo or fetus is not clearly known and pregnant women should consult their physicians before taking it. Common side effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, drowsiness, euphoria, vomiting, and constipation. Some less common side effects are allergic reaction, blood disorders, changes in mood, mental fogginess, anxiety, lethargy, difficulty urinating, spasm of the ureter, irregular or depressed respiration, and rash.

Hydrocodone can be habit-forming, and can lead to physical and psychological addiction. In the U.S., pure hydrocodone and forms containing more than 15mg per dosage unit are considered Schedule II drugs. Those containing less than 15mg per dosage unit are Schedule III drugs. Hydrocodone is typically found in combination with other drugs such as Paracetamol (acetaminophen), Aspirin and homatropine methylbromide. In the UK it is listed as a Class A drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

For anyone who I've talked to about how I felt when I had them this pretty much explains it!! Thought it was an interesting read. Looks like I was given some pretty hard core stuff.

Next week

Things may be a little quiet from me next week. On Monday I head into Court for my Jury service. If I am selected then there is the possibility that I'll be there all week. If not then I'll be back at work and in front of my computer on Tuesday morning! I hope I am picked, and not just so I get a week off work. It'll be rather interesting. I'll post about the experience when I'm back.

Friend Count

So my friend count is up to 21 now on myspace!! woohoo! Funniest thing is though that I only know 9 of these people! The rest are either bands or singers! All a bit of fun isn't it.

MySpace

The MySpace craze is pretty much sweeping the globe! I'm sure that everyone knows someone who has a 'Space' of their own. I must admit I have one, and I'm slowly learning how to use it and make it look cool. Unlike Blogging, MySpace seems to be mostly about having friends or making them and chatting. There is a place where you can blog or journal though. I'd much rather do that stuff here cause even though there is public access on both I feel a bit more annonomys (sp*) on here.

I'm a bit of a follower and only got one because people were talking about it and I wanted to know what it was all about. Some people on the other hand are making a stand and not joining in just because.

Like with Blogger it took me a while to figure things out, even the simplest things like adding a photo! Today I have just managed to change my background! Its now a pretty beach! I found heaps of cool backgrounds so I'll probably end up changing it every now and again. It's much easier than I thought it would be.

Oops!

Looks like I got a little carried away with the funny quizzes. There were so many different ones. I think I'll post a proper blog at lunch time.

Small Things

Sometimes at work everyday feels the same, so sometimes it's the small things that really make a difference. Things like, a sincerely grateful patient. Cute little kids in glasses. Getting funny emails. My favourite patient coming in!!! Which he happened to do yesterday! He is such a nice guy, always in a good mood, always smiling and ready to stop and have a chat. Yesterday he even made fun of me for being cold (yes even inside with 2 heaters going).

I suppose it's one good thing about this job. Heaps of the patients come in so often that you kind of get to know them by name and face and even by voice over the phone.

Winter Weather

I can't believe how beautiful the weather was over the weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday had clear blue skies, sunshine and not a lot of wind, today is much the same. Sure it's still pretty chilly, but... NO RAIN!! A wonderful thing indeed!
There was only one downfall, this morning my car was covered in a nice layer of ice!! I was madly scraping the ice off and ended up tipping a milk bottle full of hot water over my windows to get it off. There were even little icicles (*sp) all over the roof. The outside temperature switch in my car said it was 2 degrees and that was 8.15am this morning. By the time I was at work the temperature had trebbled!

Weird!

All I'm going to say is that I work with some really really screwy people!! It's been a weird couple of weeks with them!! And a very weird afternoon!

'Only Hope' by Mandy Moore and Switchfoot

There's a song thats inside of my soul.
It's the one that I've tried to write over and over again.
I'm awake in the infinite cold,
but you sing to me over and over and over again.

So I lay my head back down,
And I lift my hands and pray to be only yours.
I pray to be only yours.

I know now you're my only hope.

Sing to me the song of the stars.
Of your galaxy dancing and laughing and laughing again.
When it feels like my dreams are so far,
Sing to me of the plans that you have for me over again.

I give you my apathy. I'm giving you all of me.
I want your symphony. Singing in all that I am.
At the top of my lungs, I'm giving it back.

This was one of the main songs in the movie 'A Walk to Remember'. Bex loaned me the DVD and I sat in bed and watched it last night. The song sounded so familiar and it took me a while to figure out where I'd heard it before. I thought at first maybe Sharee had sung it for an item in church, eventually I realised that some people did it in the talent quest at HM Rage. I think they actually won one of the categories. It's such a beautiful song. I replayed the chapter of the movie when Mandy Moore's character sings it like 4 times!!

Interested

I am one of those people that reads random blogs occasionally. Some of them I find really interesting so go back every now and again. I have never commented on any though. I'm interested if there are any readers of my blog. I know it isn't that interesting, but if there is anyone out there leave a comment on this post. You don't even have to put your name to it if you don't want to. I'm just interested!!

Tui's witty response to the black outs in Auckland last Monday.

Glory

In Chris' sermon on the end of Romans at InCite a couple of weeks ago he brought up God's glory. One of the discussion questions asked how glory is defined.
In our group we found it easy enough to think of examples of God's glory and what God's glory is greater or more 'glorious' than. But as far as actually defining it.... tricky.

We were text talking about it last night and both resorted to a dictionary...

Glory - Something that brings honour or praise. To be exalted. Splendor. Radiant beauty.

'Radiant beauty', I like that. When I thought about it, I described glory as a presence. Which sounds cheesy, but kinda works.

God's Glory is a demonstration of who He is - by His might, wisdom, holiness, creation, mercy and His grace.

When you put God into the equation the word Glory has quite a strong meaning. When you see it in that context, it is hard to justify using the word glory to describe anything less.

Like Chris said to me when you contrast God's glory with ours ... it certainly puts things into perspective doens't it.

Summer Holiday

Yes, I know both of these photos are rather old and pinched from Elli, but I saw them and was like ahh, what a good time we had over in Aussie! - Couldn't resist posting a couple. It's me and Elli on the WipeOut at Dreamworld and on Broadbeach.

U2

So after all the hype and excitement of getting tickets to the U2 concert at the start of the year and then finding out it had been postponed, I saw this announcement of sorts on the U2 website today.

09.06.2006
Thanks For Your Patience
We at U2.com would like to thank you for your patience around the recent postponement of the Vertigo Tour dates. As we're sure you can appreciate, changes of this nature generate a great deal of work behind the scenes. We hope to have the situation resolved soon. We apologise for the delay and thank you again for your continued patience.

So hopefully they'll have new tour dates soon!!!

Black Outs

What a busy Monday! On my way to work yesterday all the traffic lights were out - from Pt Chev all the way to Onehunga, not a single set were working. When I got into work the girls were sitting at the desk in darkness. Reports started trickling through that there'd been an issue at the big Otahuhu sub station and the whole city from Manukau to Avondale was without power and it could be 3 hours before it would be restored. We re-scheduled the morning appointments but left the afternoon ones thinking we'd be fine after 12. But no, 1pm rolled around and we were still without power so the boss kindly let us go home. I was so thankful... I never would have guessed just how cold it gets in our building without the heating.

The whole drama was rather third world. It's laughable that the biggest city in the country was virtually crippled all because 1 wire broke and fell in an 'unfortunate' way.

10.6.06

Record Breaker

Wow!! I've set myself a new record!! The last 3 posts have been orginal - no posting forwarded emails or songs, just my own thoughts!
Haha

ps. Elli you should be proud!! :)
Sometimes people make mistakes that aren't funny but still make you laugh - even though you know you shouldn't be laughing. Sometimes though people make mistakes that are just plain funny and you are within your rights to die laughing.

Yesterday I had one of those times where I think I was entitled to laugh.

It was a situation where an email was sent out to a whole group of people. Doesn't sound that funny so far does it. The main body of the email was meant to go out to the people it went to, but it was the extra email at the bottom of the page that was the funny part.

The receivers of this email were treated to corrospondence between the sender and his new secret girlfriend. Not a secret anymore though is it! It was the silly sort of thing you'd expect from this particular individual. Firstly to even have a 'secret' girlfriend and secondly to make such a dumb mistake like send their emails out to so many people.

Because of the nature of my relationship with this guy I felt I could laugh about it. It was really the only thing I could do. If I'm honest with myself though, it was actually a sucky way to find out. Better knowing though, right?

Last Weekend

So apart from the suckyness of getting sick, last weekend at HM Rage was really cool. We all met up at church on Friday night and packed into cars. I had Bex and Elle, Tina and Mina! In full.... Rebekah, Elli, Christina and Romina. We had plenty of lollies so were sorted for the possibility of a long trip down in the traffic. I was so shocked that we just cruised the whole way down. There wasn't a single hold up at all. We met at Matamata McDonalds, some people grabbed a quick feed (I got a quick coffee!!).
After a few hitches when we arrived at Totara, we all got settled.
Everyone joined in for the Soccer and Rugby competitions and we went to the Talent Quest heats to support the people that had entered - Izak and his super movie and the boys band Ascendence of the Fallen and Keirs comedy routine.
The 1920's Gangster themed banquet was really well done. Eveyone looked great all dressed up.
James Rees-Thomas was the speaker from Wellington and he presented the gospel message in a real, relevant and challenging way.
Camps are a great place to get to know each other in a different environment. I think we came away from the weekend as a tighter group. It was great to see the Youth encouraging each other in every area.

Hopefully I'll post some photos from the weekend next week. I have them edited on my laptop - just need to burn them to a disc and bring it in to work.

6.6.06

Sick

Yuck - I hate being sick. My nose is all stuffy and my eyes and sinuses hurt. I could feel myself getting sick for most of last week and the freezing cold over the weekend encouraged it along! Not to mention being in the rain, the lack of sleep and the sharing a small cabin with 13 girls.
So yes in a way it's self inflicted and I shouldn't be complaining. I came to work anyway today. I guess it's hard to justify staying home on the first day for the week, especially when you've had a fun weekend away.

...So I started this post on Tuesday and then had Wed and Thurs off work. I was a complete right off. I just had half a day here yesterday and I'm working 3 hours this morning (Sat). So just taking it easy. My voice is almost(ish) back to normal.

Greys Anatomy

I really love this show. I didn't really watch the first season, but I'm totally hooked on the second. Monday night's episode was like the best TV watching ever. Definately my favourite show on at the moment. It's such a great comedy/drama rolled into one!
George would have to be one of my favourite characters. He's so sweet! And of course least fav would be Addison. The writers do their job well of making her out to be the baddie.
Anyway, just a random post.

Speaking of baddies though, this weekend is HM Rage down at Totara Springs in Matamata. The theme is 1920's Gangster. For the Banquet on Saturday everyone is supposed to dress up in the theme. I was thinking about doing the low waisted dress, feather boa, headband thing but that was going to take too much effort for the amount of time that I have. So, I've decided to go as a gangster chick. I saw a picture on a costume hire website. I found myself a toy gun, white tie and a perfect hat all at the Dollar Shop down the road from work and I have my black pinstripe shorts and a black shirt to wear - I'm all sorted. Should be a good weekend.

Give the Nice Guys a Chance...

Here is something interesting I was emailled this morning, it's something a guy has written to 'girls' in general by the looks. Any guys out there care to comment on what he has to say? If only all guys felt this way...

From a guys point of view:

We don't care if you talk to other guys. We don't care if you're friends with other guys. But when you're sitting next to us, and some random guy walks into the room and you jump up and tackle him, without even introducing us, yeah, it pisses us off. It doesn't help if you sit there and talk to him for ten minutes without even acknowledging the fact that we're still there. …And we don't care if a guy calls you, but at 2 in the morning we do get a little concerned. Nothing is that important at 2 a.m. that it can't wait till the morning.

Also, when we tell you you're pretty/ beautiful/ gorgeous/ cute/ stunning, we freaking mean it. Don't tell us we're wrong. I’ll stop trying to convince you.
Yeah, you can quote me.

Don't be mad when we hold the door open. Take Advantage of the mood I’m in.
LET US PAY FOR YOU! DON'T "FEEL BAD" We enjoy doing it. It's expected. Smile and say "thank you."

(This part is so damn true, but why won't you believe it?) You don't have to get dressed up for us. If we're going out with you in the first place, you don't have to feel the need to wear the shortest skirt you have or put on every kind of makeup you own. We like you for WHO you are and not WHAT you are. Honestly, i think a girl looks more beautiful when she's just in her pj's, not all dolled up.

Don't take everything we say seriously. Sarcasm is a beautiful thing. See the beauty in it. Don't get angry easily.

Stop using magazines/media as your bible. Don't talk about how hot Brad Pitt, or Jesse McCartny is in front of us. It's boring, and we don't care. You have girlfriends for that.

Whatever happened to the word "handsome"/"beautiful" I’d be utterly stunned by a girl who greeted me with "Hey handsome!" instead of "Hey baby/ stud/ cutie/ sexy" or whatever else you can think of on the other hand I’m not saying i wouldn’t like it ether ; )

Girls, I cannot stress this enough: IF YOU AREN'T BEING TREATED RIGHT BY A GUY, DON'T WAIT FOR HIM TO CHANGE. DITCH HIS SORRY, DISGRACE-TO-THE-MALE-POPULATION ASS, AND FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL TREAT YOU WITH UTTER RESPECT… …
Someone who will honor your morals… …
Someone who will make you smile when you're at your lowest… …
Someone who will care for you even when you make mistakes… …
Someone who will love you, no matter how bad you make them feel… …
Someone who will stop what they’re doing just to look you in the eyes... .and say "i love you" ......and ACTUALLY MEAN IT!

Give the nice guys a chance

Now add up the total number of points.

OVER 60 POINTS: Others see you as someone they should "handle with care." You're seen as vain, self-centered, and who is extremely dominant. Others may admire you, wishing they could be more like you, but don't always trust you, hesitating to become too deeply involved with you.

51 TO 60 POINTS: Others see you as an exciting, highly volatile, rather impulsive personality; a natural leader, who's quick to make decisions, though not always the right ones. They see you as bold and adventuresome, someone who will try anything once; someone who takes chances and enjoys an adventure. They enjoy being in your company because of the excitement you radiate.

41 TO 50 POINTS: Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who's constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and under-standing; someone who'll always cheer them up and help them out.

31 TO 40 POINTS: Others see you as sensible, cautious, careful & practical. They see you as clever, gifted, or talented, but modest. Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expect the same loyalty in return. Those who really get to know you realize it takes a lot to shake your trust In your friends, but equally that it takes you a long time to get over if that trust is ever broken.

21 TO 30 POINTS: Your friends see you as painstaking and fussy. They see you as very cautious, extremely careful, a slow and steady plodder. It would really surprise them if you ever did something impulsively or on the spur of the moment, expecting you to examine everything carefully from every angle and then, usually decide against it. They think this reaction is caused partly by your careful nature.

UNDER 21 POINTS: People think you are shy, nervous, and indecisive, someone who needs looking after, who always wants someone else to make the decisions & who doesn't want to get involved with anyone or anything! They see you as a worrier who always sees problems that don't exist. Some people think you're boring. Only those who know you well know that you aren't.

Friday

I'm glad today is Friday.
It's been a long week.
I haven't been feeling the best.
I've had dramas with our fitting lab at work and it's raining!
Tomorrow though is Saturday,
And I don't have to work (yay).
I get to sleep in,
And celebrate a friends 21st.
Sunday is church and friends.
Fellowship and relaxation.
Then all to soon it will be Monday again.

Luke 19:40

I found you today, I saw your face in the sunset
and a butterfly reminded me that I'm alive

You say in your word
that if I don't sing this song
even the rocks will cry out
and proclaim your glorious name
You wrote your name in the sky
for all to see, none can deny.

If you care enough
to make the little things so delicate and complex
how much more you care for me
I can only guess
And if that wasn't enough

you let your son die for us
to proclaim your glorious name

You wrote your name in the sky
for all to see none can deny.
So if I don't sing this song
even the rocks will cry out
and proclaim your glorious name.

I wish I coud take credit for writing the beautiful words in this song. It's written by Shooting Stars a great Kiwi acoustic duo. This is probably my favourite song by them. God loves us so much and it's expressed so clearly in this song. Like the words say, if he took so much care in creating the smallest creatures on earth and painting beautiful sunrises and sunsets across the skies, then just imagine how much he cares about us. It's pretty much beyond comprehension. We have been created in the image of God, our Heavenly Father. Created though as unique individuals with free will. What an amazing thing!

Waiting

I'll wait.

"Wait for the man who pursues you, the one who will make an ordinary moment seem magical. The kind of man who brings out the best in you and makes you want to be a better person. Wait for the man who will be your best friend, the person who will drop everything to be with you at anytime of the day no matter what the circumstances, wait for the man who makes you smile and when he smiles you know he needs you. Wait for the man who wants to show you off in sweats and have no makeup on. Most of all, wait for the man who will love you only second to Jesus Christ."

The last few posts haven't been original thought I must admit, but I keep finding things that I want to share. This came from a random chicks website and I thought it was pretty good. She'd been asking the question where has Chivalry gone! It was funny that I read it especially since I had been talking about that very thing with a friend on Saturday night.
I spose you could say that she is more on the traditional side of things. The guy should be the one chasing the girl. He should make the effort to get to know her more if he's interested and 'pursue' her in general.

While I like the sound of that, the reality is that some guys are chicken. They're as afraid of rejection as we girls are. I guess too personality plays a big role in how a guy would act while chasing a girl.
While I'm not totally opposed to being the chaser, the girl in me would love to be chased.
One thing I do wonder about is how guys feel about being chased. Are they opposed to it? Or do they like the idea of having a girl after them? Obviously everyone is different and at the moment there's really only one person that I'm concerned with! Unfortunately he's proving to be very difficult to read so I'm just going to keep on with the little things and we'll see what happens.

I guess though based on the quote at the beginning of this post, you could argue that if he is the one then he'll go after you til he gets you.

The Priest

Elli is reading one of my books called "The Priest" by Francine Rivers. She just emailled me through a passage that is pretty challenging and amazing. I thought I'd post it here too. It's written at the part where God is parting the Red Sea for the Isralites to pass through to escape from the Egyptians.
"...The God who laid down the foundations of the earth and scattered the stars across the heavens was protecting them! The God who could call forth plagues and part the sea was overshadowing them!" Who will dare stand against a God like ours?"
Elli's comment about it to me was special too she put it really well. (Hope you don't mind me posting this Elle)
" --- i like that, its nice to know you have an almighty, all powerful, forever graceful God, or Father on your side when you feel like the whole world is against you!"

Amen

Today

Well, what a day it's been. I left for work this morning at 5 past 8 and didn't get there until 9.25am!! It was probably my longest journey to work ever. It was raining which usually causes some chaos - it was just far worse today. I text ahead to work saying I was running late and they were ok about it.

When I finally made it in I noticed a rather large box sitting on the floor in one of the exam rooms... my computer had arrived!!! I opened it up and had a bit of a play but I'll leave it mostly til I'm home tonight. It looks so cool though. David (my boss) asked me very politely if he could have a play, how could I say no. So he set it up in one of the rooms. I'm happy I decided to go ahead with it. It was too good a deal to pass up. Even the leather carry case is great. It's really strong and has lots of pockets and compartments for papers, pens, cards and even a cell phone!
So grown up!!!! : P

Actually when I think about it I should probably take that last statement back. I am such a klutz! I have to admit that most people who know me already realise that. Even when I was at camp I was called into the Klutzy Club! How could they not after the knee incident! The reason I've mentioned this is because I was heading into our kitchenette at work I punched the corner of the desk (accidentally of course) but boy did it hurt. I caught the knuckles of my middle and ring finger on my left hand. Instant swelling and soon after some nice bruising appeared! I can't believe myself sometimes!!

Soup Soup Soup

I love Soup! There is almost nothing better than a steaming hot mug or bowl in winter time. You know that winter has arrived at Church when we start having Soup Lunches on Sundays after church. They ask a whole lot of people to make a crock pot full of soup and bring it in before church. Then we all enjoy it afterwards with fresh bread rolls. I had the nicest Spiced Kumara soup. It was delicious!! It's also a great time to talk and catch up with different people.

Spent Sunday afternoon with Bex, Elli and Alyssa. Shopped at West City for a bit, then sat in the sun down at the waterfront. Then before inCite watched Gilmour Girls and ate pizza. I know I shouldn't say, but that night I had some good perving time too!! Hehe naughty me!! :-D

I have a busy end of the week/weekend coming up. Thursday night I'm going to a product launch for work. Our main lab is releasing a new lens so I'm off to check that out. Then on Friday night is Simon's farewell thingy - he's off to America for 3 months. Saturday night is Aimee's 21st party, thankfully I'm not working on Satuday morning so I get a sleep in!!! Busy busy!

Yay for ZM!!!

One of our local radio stations is ZM and they run a competition where you can enter online and go in the draw to win a work shout. Alisha a girl I work with entered us in last week and this morning a girl rang and said they'd pop in around 11am this morning! We were all a fluster when Alisha confessed she'd entered us into 2 draws. One was for Subway for lunch and the other was 3 topless guys would come and serve us the new KitKat Temptations on a Silver Platter, one of the guys being the very good looking Mark Hewlett from various tv ads and he won a series of Fear Factor a while ago. They arrived a little after 11, but came with KitKats, Subway and free cat food - which was a little weird but cool none the less. There were 3 guys as promised but they were fully clothed (its pretty cold today!) I was kinda relieved actually. Could have been a little awkward had any patients walked in!! They stayed and chatted for a good 15 minutes or so. They got quite excited and were trying on frames and asking us lots of questions. It was a nice surprise!
Thanks ZM!!!

The very yummy new KitKat Temptations!!

Babysitting

Yesterday after I finished work Elli and I went up to Sharee and Brendon's to look after Kaeli and Asher for the afternoon. We thought it would be nice to give Sharee a break for a bit. She's now just over 8 mths preggers. Thankfully she took sick Asher with her (he has baby giardia) :-( So Sharee went out shopping with her mum and Elli and I got to have fun playing playdough! Kaeli had saved half to share with us! Very generous of her! Then we were treated to a fashion show and plenty of hula dancing. She is such a little darling. Asher had actually perked up a bit when they came home so we were playing peek-a-boo. It was a fun afternoon!

Laptop Update!!!

I thought I would take advantage of the 'Check Your Order Status' on the Dell website. While I know I only placed the order yesterday I wanted to see if any progress had been made! To my delight my order has been completed!!! And when I clicked on the shipping status it says it's left the factory !! Yay!! I'm very EXCITED!! It should be here towards the end of next week.
And even better in 18 minutes I'm leaving work for the day.

Drama Drama Drama

Why is it that some people can not exisit on this planet with out drama in their lives. Why they can't be content just living a normal stress free life is beyond me!! Sometimes creating drama is the only way they can get attention, which actually makes me sad. It doesn't matter if it's positive or negative - just as long as they get it. For me though the worst part is when others get caught up in the fuss they create. The reason for my ranting ... I got caught up in some of this drama this week - it wasn't any fun.

I'm on a roll too. It wasn't even 10am this morning and I had a woman swearing at me. She turned up here for an appointment but we didn't have her booked in and we didn't even have an appointment at that time either. I was confused and she was mad. I offered to put her in for a little later in the morning but she wasn't going to have a bar of it. Eventually she mentioned something about a deal with ASB Bank... we don't have a deal with them. Sure enough she was booked in at our competition up the road. Thankfully she apologised before storming out the door! Aren't Fridays great!

On a positve note one of my favourite patients came in to pick up some contact lenses this morning! He always manages to put a smile on my face! A frame rep also came round with hot coffee! It's not as cold today as it has been this week but it was very welcome anyway.

I should also say that I had a lovely night out last night. After arriving late for dinner, nearly tripping over a chair and getting a wicked cramp in my hamstring, I sat down and had a great catch up with Amb, Isaac, Rach and Amber's family as well. The food was wonderful too. I had the biggest chicken burger ever! Home made bread, avocado, bacon, lettuce, chicken breast and aioli. Yum!! Not to mention a huge bowl of shoestring fries on the side. Tam and Stace ate most of the chips though. I took the cheap way out by not ordering any dessert but sampling bites of what the others had! hehe!! I'm definately looking forward to Amber and Isaac's wedding!! Will be the highlight of the summer I think!

Quiet

I've been rather quiet this week, haven't posted at all. It's been kinda strange I guess. Sunday was Mothers Day, so we had plans to go out for lunch, Mum text me though to say she was with Ash at the hospital! He had been having these bad headaches and vomitting and he'd developed a fever too. After spending the day there he was sent home still not knowing what was wrong. He has a low white blood, which is a concern but meningitis which was the biggest worry was ruled out. I spent Monday at home with him. I wasn't feeling too good either so it was a good excuse to be at home. We watched TV and made Scoobies and I baked a couple of things.
Rach came up from Wellington on Monday morning so we arranged to meet up for dinner on Tuesday. We had Indian at Handi in Titirangi. It was nice to have a proper catch up as we didn't get much of a chance to talk at my birthday. Tonight we're going to GPK with Amber and Isaac! Looking forward to it.
One exciting thing that happened today is that I bought a laptop!! It's a Dell. The only bummer is that it's going to take up to 10 days to arrive. I'm such a girl too - I got an extra coloured shell for it. Kinda like a phone face plate! It's this nice bright blue colour. So I can swap between the silver and white combo and blue! My boss was giving me crap, he asked me if it makes it go better? ... My answer, "OF COURSE!! But it'd go better if it came in Pink!" He just laughed at me. They sucked me in didn't they.
The weekend is fast approaching! It's been a short week for me but I still can't wait.

Jury Service

I got home from work yesterday and there was an envelope on the table from the Department of Justice! Nothing serious of course, but it contained a Jury Service Summons. This is the first time I have received one of these. It's only for the District Court, I'm thankful it's not for the High Court and I would only be required for a week. Of course now I have to decide if I want to get out of it, or if work wants me to get out of it. I guess I'm kinda torn really. Part of me can't be bothered with the fuss of it all. Getting time off work, fighting the traffic into town, finding a park in there and then catching up at work when it's done. But at the same time it would be a really interesting experience to see how the system works. Of course there is the real possibility that I will turn up and then not be selected to serve on a jury anyway. In which case it'll be a day off work and not much more.

Family

Family are wonderful. These are from left, my Aunty Julia, Uncle Will, Gran and Mum.

Almost all of my Mums side of the family were able to make it to Auckland for my 21st. Here we all are, it's a pretty good photo of everyone!

Me with my Uncle Will - the worlds biggest tease!

My darling brothers for the first time in their lives (age 17) thought it would be funny to dress the same and try to fool a few people. It's scary how alike they look.

Just one of those things...

So, I come to work everyday prepared to answer phone calls and take messages, book appointments and fix peoples glasses. Those are some of the things I am employed to do. One thing that really gets me though is when I'm answering the phone and it's for either of the other 2 girls I work with. I lose track some days how many personal phone calls they get or make in a day. There's nothing I can do about it though, it's not fair but I just have to deal with it. Just felt like having a whinge and this is a good place to do it!!

"Whatever I feel like I wanna do..."

This picture is too funny, I couldn't resisit posting it. I actually found it on someone elses blog page. It's some kids she knows all dressed up for Halloween. "...Gosh"

Thoughts for the day...

A couple of things have been going through my head this morning. I've tried to put both of them into words but nothing is coming out right today. One of them is the saying "Love is Blind" and what is meant by it and other was just something interesting that I'd been thinking about to do with how so many different things can trigger memories and the emotions that are associated with those memories. I had one such experience last week while listening to a CD on my way to work. I guess the memories can be good or bad, but in my case they weren't the best. Kind of sucks actually I really like the CD but I've been put off for a while.

Today

The number of posts that I've put up today should be an indicator of something... I'm bored. It's really really quiet at work today! Both of us on reception have been very busy tapping away at the keyboard typing emails most of the day! Isn't there something you could be doing? One might ask? Possibly yes, but nothing super urgent that can't wait until tomorrow. Everything that needs to be done today has been, which is the most important thing.

When I came in this morning the lady that I spend most of my time working with here, told me that her uncle in Fiji passed away over the weekend. He had been sick and she was planning a trip later in the month to see him for a last time. I obviously felt for her, but sort of realised I wasn't entirely sure what to say to her. I've been working here for close to 18 months now, 5-6 days a week, I've spent a lot of my life in this building, at this desk next to her. I sort of felt as though I should have been able to offer her more than I did. Perhaps it's just our culture here in New Zealand. Not wanting to get too close to people outside of our immediate circles of family and friends. It's obviously something worth thinking about. Being more outward than inwardly focussed.

PINK!!!

Just changed my template, pink is much more appealling to me than green! : D

Winter...

is definately well on it's way! My electric blanket came on for the first time last night! I love winter!

Good times...

After church yesterday Alyssa and I went and had lunch with Romina and her friend Reuben. He was at Youth Group on Saturday night as well. It was fun getting to know him. I decided he'd get along really well with Nick. After lunch Alyssa and I went and crashed Elli's cleaning frenzy. We talked for a while and Bex joined us there too. We ended up all on Elli's bed listening to Mozelee over and over again and talking like girls do! The conversation turned kind of serious and we were thinking about how much life can change in a year and what has changed since this time last year and then we got onto where we thought we'd be this time next year and what we'd be doing. We ended up actually writing stuff down, so it'll be very interesting to pull that out next May. To top off a random afternoon we got hot dogs and chips and ate them beside the Henderson creek in the dark and cold and had gone off soft drinks.
The day ended at InCite where we ... talked more (surprise surprise) and had some great teaching from Josh. He spoke on John 1:1-18 "In the beginning was the Word."
It was just one of those really fun days. In the famous words of Elli "...good times!"

6.5.06

Friday night

Cause us girls are always the ones making plans for us to do stuff, we put it to the boys to organise something for us to do. Kevin stepped up to the plate and planned for us to trek out to mini golf by the airport. The weather packed in so we chose a drier option which was 10 pin bowling. (Much to Elli's disappointment) It ended up being Kev, Chris, Dan and Antz Bex, Elle and I and then Cam and Mike joined us later. I didn't do too badly - got 90. Little Antz won with something like 120. He beat out all the older guys!! We went back to Kevins in time to watch the Kiwis vs. the Aussies in the League Test match. It was funny to watch the guys watching the game but Elli and I busied ourselves in the kitchen for most of it! Too bad the Kiwis lost right guys!!

This is me at my 21st Party

Clever

So, clever me! Got my first post up and then somehow managed to post the exact same thing again! I've deleted it now but I can see that this is going to take a bit of practise.

1st Post!!

After first creating this page late last year, here I am finally posting something. I've thought a bit about what sort of things to put on here and after looking at heaps of random blogs, I've decided that I was probably overthinking it. It doesn't seem to matter what goes on a blog. I'll probably get round to posting photos of different things, including my 21st which was a couple of weeks ago.
